The Art of the Possible Method
Plan International saw great advancements for girl’s rights in the run up to the 2018 G7 Summit in Canada. Girls’ education in emergencies rose to the top of Prime MInister Justin Trudeau’s’ agenda – having never before been prioritized by the G7 – with the Charlevoix Declaration on Quality Education for Girls, Adolescent Girls and Women in Developing Countries. Moreover, advocates were able to achieve nearly triple our financial ask, setting a clear path for international action for girls, and all children living in places affected by conflict and natural disasters.
The Impact
Charlevoix was the largest investment in girls education in history, with $3.8 billion committed by G7 leaders and international partners. It will provide an education for 8.7 million children caught in the world’s most forgotten conflicts. Art of the Possible also supported a second proposal for the Women Deliver Conference in June 2019 – where $1.4 B was announced to renew the money for the Muskoka Initiative of 2010 including $700 million in new money for sexual and reproductive health and rights.
